3 tips for improving your state of mind
I’m not going to claim to be able to sort out all your problems. But just recently I have found that a lot of my “down in the dumps” days can be drastically improved just by changing my state of mind. I’m not suggesting that this will work for everyone, but I do believe that having a positive mindset does improve things drastically.
We all have down days, no matter how positive we are. But just recently I’ve found that my down days were hitting me far more often than normal. I was spending day after day feeling low and consequently not really achieving very much.
I started to force myself to change the way I was thinking, and was surprised when I found that my mood did actually start to improve.
1. Get outside
This is such an important one for me. I work from home, and some days, the only time I go outside is to do the school run. When the kids are off, the lack of just that bit of fresh air from the school run really does impact me.
Try to get some fresh air every day. You don’t need to go trekking too far, particularly if the weather is bad, but just get outside for at least some time. If you’re able to go for a walk, then you’ll also benefit from the exercise too.
2. Focus on the positives
When you’re going through a tough time, it’s easy to focus solely on your problems. Make a point of forcing yourself to think about the positive things in your life.
If you have children, then spend some quality time with them. Kids have an incredible knack of making everyone smile.
If you’ve achieved something recently, then be proud of yourself and recognise how far you’ve come.
Just don’t let the negatives win in your mind.
It’s a good idea to spend five minutes each day focusing on what you’re grateful for in your life. You could even write them down so that you can look back on them throughout the day.
3. Look after your body
I don’t know about you, but when I’m feeling down I crave junk food. The trouble is that junk food only makes me feel worse. It might temporarily give me a high, but over the next 24 hours or so I feel awful.
Eat a diet rich in fruit and veg, and drink plenty of water. When your body feels healthy, there’s more chance of your mind being in a better place too.
Whilst these three tips might not be ground-breaking, they will make a difference to your mood when you’re feeling a little low. Do you have any top tips for improving your state of mind?
